HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE!!! Spring is a great time to start things fresh and anew!
Just look outside and watch the world transform and awaken right before your eyes! Birds happily singing, flowers fragrantly blooming, spring rains graciously giving all things a refreshing drink from heaven. Why, with all that’s happening who can’t help but smile and look forward to springtime!
It's time to not only spring clean our homes but also our health. We won’t be able to enjoy spring to the fullest extent if we’re low on energy, battling through sickness or even worse in the hospital.
Believe me, it’s worth taking the time and money to invest in your health now BEFORE you get sick!
Let’s make health simple for this spring season…
1. EAT GOODER. (for all you English majors...just eat better PLEASE)
Enjoy cleaner foods (eliminate factory-farmed animal products which are full of toxic chemicals, hormones and antibiotics).
Now is the time to make up for all the salads you didn’t eat regularly during the winter. (I don’t know about you but when the weather is cold, it’s more challenging for me to make & eat very many salads). Now that the weather is warming up, it’s time to kick it in full gear! Try to have a salad at least every other day and incorporate a rainbow of fruits and veggies daily. Check out recipes to give you new ideas so it doesn’t get boring. Be careful of processed salad dressings which can defeat the health benefits of your salad. Focus on organic fruits and vegetables. Avoid foods that promote inflammation like sugar, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, alcohol, processed foods, etc.
Remember to drink plenty of water too!
2. EXERCISE – MOVE IT MOVE IT!!
Enough of being cooped up all winter!! (I’m also talking to myself on this one. I get so consumed in writing, studying, helping others and preparing to teach that I MUST schedule in physical exercise or I find myself exercising my brain more than my body :p).
GET MOVING!!! Sound-off; 1-2; Sound-off; 3-4; 1-2-3-4! MARCH!!!
Ok, so if you don’t like to march then at least walk, jog, jump, swim, hike, dance, skip, (yup, I have been known to skip from one end of the house to the other and dance to some of my favorite happy God songs (pausing here so you can visualize and laugh if you need to). I’ve got my grand-daughter doing the same thing but for some reason it's "way cuter" and "oh so precious!" when she does it than when I skip and dance. Sometimes life just isn't fair).
Then there's golf, especially if you walk the course and search for all the balls you lost until you find them. (I’m gonna learn this silly little hard white ball game so I can play with the man of my dreams, my husband♥).
The point is DO SOMETHING you enjoy and if the pollen count isn't too high then DEEPLY breathe in the fresh clean air especially after a spring rain.
3. LIGHTEN THE TOXIC LOAD.
Let’s face it, we can get “full of it” from time to time ("toxic overload" is what I’m talking about, gheez people ;).
It’s smart to do a detox in the spring and fall in order to get rid of the extra gunk that’s hiding inside & making it really hard on your liver and other organs. Just think of how much better you’ll feel and the energy you’ll have when you aren’t weighed down with all those toxic poisons!
Some signs you may need to detox are headaches, skin rashes, fatigue, irritability, depression, pain, bloating, constipation, brain fog, and inability to lose weight.
Foods that will help detoxify are garlic, leafy greens, citrus fruits, raw vegetables, chia and hemp seeds.
Remember to get plenty of water and exercise too.
Along with the foods mentioned, I have a couple of favorite cleanses that work really well called Clean Start and Tiao He Cleanse which targets the colon and liver. There is also a Dieters Cleanse and Para Cleanse. Ask me if you’re not sure which one to use and I'll be glad to help you. Be sure to take probiotics for a healthy gut (if you're not already eating daily fermented foods and plain yogurt with live cultures or if you've been on antibiotics).
4. THINK ABOUT what you think about.
Not only can our body become toxic but so can our minds. Don’t allow your mind to think toxic thoughts, it will affect everything around you including the ones you love and care about.
Stinkin’ thinkin’ can also have a damaging effect on your physical health.
I like to suggest filtering thoughts through Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
There you have it, a few tips that will surely put a SPRING in your step!
